Around but struggling


I am here. But just barely. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I have been feeling real down lately. Overwhelmed also. Trying to work though it. I am down but not out.

Rant... Not Weight Related

i have 4 children. My oldest is my son who is 19yrs old. His father has always been absent from his life. Well This jerk still owes back child support to the tune of around $7000 dollars. I didn't require child support fromthis man for almost a decade. WHen I finally did get this man to court, like 2-3 months later he conveniently lost his job. He has been ducking dodging child suport ever since. So I get a letter in the mail tell ing me that I have to attend court out of step in less than 2weeks.

I am so irritated.

I really want to get in the 220s this week. SO I have to really push it on all fronts.

6/25: I am really in a good place. It could be because my cycle is on and I am really getting the exercise incorporated into my daily life. I am making this a life style. I want to be better person inside and out.

21 days done... What's next?--NEED YOUR VOTE/OPINION...

ONE MORE DAY TO VOTE!!!!

Today will be my 21st day of deliberate exercse in a row. It took me about a month to get it done. But
I am still very proud of myself for sticking to this. I am still a work in progress when it comes to incorporating exercise on a regular basis. This mind shift takes work. I know that I do it. I also know I have to stay focused. I must also be sure to tap into the wonderful support system I have. I have other bloggers, my family, and my friends to keep me honest.

It is always been easy for me to quit on myself but not to quit on others. I do not want to have other people look and me and be disappointed.

I have learned somethings during this past month.

  1. My weight seems to drop when i get in over 30 minutes daily.
  2. I still have work to do when it comes to incorporating weight training.
  3. The stationary bike is my fail-safe if I don't make it to the gym, but it is definitely not the best exercise for serious calorie expenditure.
  4. I will lose weight faster if I eat out less. (duh)
  5. I need more recipes in my cooking arsenal.
  6. Forming a new habit is no joke.
So now I have to decide what challenge I want to tackle next.
The 2 challenges I am thinking about doing for my next 21 day streak are:



-----weight training (This would take as long as 49 days as I would consider it a success if I weight trained 3 days a week).



-----food tracking - I was thinking of doing this using MyFitnessPal plus taking a pic of everything I eat.

So I am asking my blog readers and friends to weigh in on which challenge I should take on next. The one with the most votes wins.

I will take suggestions up until Sunday, June
26th ... I would like to start my next 21 day adventure on Monday.

Schedule or No Schedule...



That is the question. I have been going back and forth about whether not I should have a set schedule for the type of workout that I do. Or do I play it by ear..

Each setup has pros and cons.

  • No schedule. Less rigid. More freedom or choice. Allows for more variety.
  • Set schedule. More consistent. Easier to track improvements. Less variety.

Up until now I have been kinda playing it by ear. It works so-so. I think that is why I am l contemplating having a set schedule. When I lost weight before and lost a sig
nificant amont of weight I did so by having a set-schedule and routine for my workouts.

So here is the plan I came up with:


I like this one because it has variety and I could track how I progress if I do the same type of workout on the equipment. PLus the Wednesday Body works puts me in a class and demands me to get outta my comfort zone.

So I guess I will try this for the next few weeks. This schedule does not mean that I can't do extra exercises in addition to my scheduled workout.

Goal weight

How did you chose your goal weight?

I have been thinking lately about what is a good goal weight for me. I know where I would ideally like to be. Ialso know how hard it may be to get to my magic number. I want to weigh like 150#. This what I looked like at 150# about 8.5 years ago. I thought I looked good especially for being 31.

Here is another shot of me around that time.

Part of me wants to embrace the goal weigh of 150. While part of me is afraid of it. Can i really do it....? With 2 small children... a teenager entering high school... a new doggy... a loving husbad... and a large house to keep up all while working full time (starting back in August).

My hubby says that 175 is a good number for me. That is funny since when we meet I was around 195#. Here is a pic of my in the 190's after our son was born.

So even in the 190's I was looking quite cute..even in white pants if I may say so myself. So as I continue on this journey I continue to struggle with what my weight goal is.

I guess only time will tell what I do and where I will end up.



Random thoughts from the treadmill

My mind is not into it today. I didn't get enough sleep and the sleep I did get was crappy. But I am here at the gym & for that I am so grateful. I am stressing about bills/money but I also know that is pointless. I think it is almost that time of the month. I have PMDD... like PMS but moodier. I just had my 1st month on the nuvaring and that helped. I am going to try it for this month coming up as well.

Anyway.. from where I am walking I can see pretty much 80% of gym floor. I make judgments, analysis. Etc. I love seeing older ppl working out. I wish my grand mom had took her health seriously. My mom is small but doesn't take care of herself either. She doesn't exercise and quit drinking and smoking only because she got locked up. My dad is overweight & outta shape also. So I have no person

al role models for being healthy. Oh well... I will not allow that to be my excuse for continuing to be overweight & unhealthy. I deserve better for myself. My family deserves better. My children will see that eating right and
be physically active is important. They will see it through me.

I actually started this post to ramble/complain about my disfunctional relationship with... food. All I have been thinkng about is Wendys. How much do I need to workout to afford myself a burger & fries. I feel so damn foolish. Yes their food is yummy. Yes it isn't the healthiest. But their is a certain numbin that comes from indulging in the hi fat.. processed food. I have to get to the bottom of that as well.

I feel so undone & broken sometimes. Like I have so much of me to fixed. But how much is really needing to be fixed & how much is my personal demons... Only God knows. With that being said I will end this post and get back to walking on this treadmill.

I have been reading blogs. I want to be successful but what I am lacking is finish. I am a strong starter and then I slowly quit. Disappointing myself is common place. I do not want to be a starter who never finishes. I want to be a starter who loses til she finishes.

Successful people look past problems and find solutions. So I have the new diet pill. I need to get moving again. They say 21 days is all it takes to make a habit. So, there is no time like the present. I am going to post on FB and see if I can get some other people to join me in the next 21days to turn my fitness around.

06/04/2011 I knew this would be difficult. I did not realize how difficult it would be. This has made me realize how life gets in the way. I need to keep balance and order. I have 2 make my health a priority. I deserve it. My family deserves it.
06/08/2011 Aww yea... 7 days straight. I am working it. I know this will pay off if I can also get my eating in order.
6/14/2011-- I am so excited that I have made it 13 days. It feels great to make progress.

20 June Thoughts

I let the past week really hold me back. I am thankful for not gaining weight, but I cannot and will not let this become a habit. I did workout everyday but my food was not good at all. I ate out too often and too much.

Today is a new day.

I made it to the gym in the a.m. and did both cardio and strength training.
  • 10 mins on recumbent bike--50 cals
  • 4 leg strength training exercises
  • 35 mins on the Elliptical--400 cals



yes... gross but shows that I was workin it out.

Now I just need to keep me calories in check and today will be a success.





Water===
at least 8 glasses... i lost count.

----Food----
Breakfast:310cal Captain Crunch Cereal with Lowfat Milk
Lunch: 510cal Brown Rice and 2 shake n' bake chicken strips
Dinner:370cal 1.5 cups spaghetti with 1 cup wheat pasta

Slimmer This Summer

12 weeks to rock my summer.
Weight Loss Goal 20lbs

My plan:
  • Nutrition- Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Stay under 1400 calories as tracked by My Fitness Pal.
  • Activity-- Be active every day for a minimum of 150 minutes weekly. I plan on going to the gym 5 days a week. I want to meet with a trainer at least once a week. I will bringing my teenage daughter with me, plus my toddlers will get to play in the kids area.
  • Support-- I will blog here, post on SP & FB. I am also going to use a trainer. I will also support my fellow Summer Slimmers.
  • Fun-- Do stuff I like. Zumba. Walking. Just Dance 2. Play with the kids. Hula hoop.

My dad is visiting this week arriving Monday a.m. and departing Friday a.m. So I may not be able to get in the serious workouts that I was able to this past week. I guess that means that I will have to be more diligent and deliberate in my food choices.
  • Monday-15 mins. aerobics-Over on food. Water so-so.
  • Tuesday-20 mins. Zumba-Over on food. Water good.
  • Wednesday-20 mins. Zumba-Over on food. Water good. I hate how I look for any excuse to eat poorly...eat out..etc. I do not know why I sabotage myself like that. I really need to do some soul seraching and get to the bottom of my problem.
  • Thursday--20 mins. Zumba-Ok on food. Water so-so. Sad for my dad to leave, but glad 2 get back 2 'normal'. I almost messed up my exercise streak. But i did Zumba at 1135 at night. Felt great to not fail myself when I have made such progress on building the exercise habit.
  • Friday--30 mins. Zumba. Food bad. Water great.
  • Saturday--15 mins. Zumba. DDid an early weigh and i see a no change weigh in ahead of me. I won't quit even if I am imperfect in my methods. This 21 dat exercise strength has really helped my fitness resolve. I am contemplating a 21 day calorie/food challenge for myself.
  • Sunday--15 minutes walking dog.

  • Monday- Good day. Worked out. I even ran into a few friends at the gym. Ran a few errands. Got to take kids to friends pool. Cooked and ate all meals at home.
  • Tuesday--Aw yea, 65 minutes of exercise. Food could have been better. Water on point.
  • Wednesday-- 75minutes of exercise. Food was ok according to MFP. Feel like I am on track. Very tempted to weigh myself 2morrow just to see. A lil scared also.
  • Thursday--60minutes of cardio. Food within myfitnesspal guidelines. Gotta curb my sweets becuz I think I am missing out on some nutrients.
  • Friday-- 30minutes of cardio
  • Saturday--55 minutes of cardio via walking a 5k.
  • Sunday--15minutes on upright bike

Notes:
June 11, 2011---- Hot but fun cause I walked with friends. Sure look forward to this weight coming off and getting healthier and faster.

Atlanta Children's Shelter 5k...


I completed my 3rd 5k today. I walked most of it. It took me 55minutes. I wish I was faster but it is better than nothing. I had a great time with my friends and family and it was for a good cause.

Laziness Hinders Success

This title came to me as I was warming up on the bike at the gym. I need to be less lazy in so many areas of my life. It is a matter of a few issues that I let get in my way.

Planning-- Exercise and proper nutrition need to be priority.

Family--Sometimes I just wanna veg out with them and not do anything. Hubby is also a huge fan of eating out. I need to be more diligent in eating wel when we go out.

We went to White Water

I woke up Friday and decided to take the kids to White Water. I found a deal where I could pay for season passes in 3 payments so I went for it. The kids have been talking about the water park ever since we went. I am so thankful that my 14 y.o. daughter going with me. It would be nearly impossible to do this trip without a 2nd person.
